What is Loose Lay Vinyl Flooring?
Loose lay vinyl flooring was developed for two reasons: firstly, to reduce the installation time and secondly, to allow easy replacement of damaged planks. It’s also much easier to replace all of it if you ever want to change your decor.
Loose lay flooring just uses a high-friction rubber backing to stay in place — there’s no glue, fasteners or interlocking grooves to fuss with. Some commercial applications do require gluing of the planks around the perimeter, however.
It’s available in a variety of thicknesses, from 3 mm to 8 mm. As a general rule, the thicker the plank, the better because the weight can also help keep each plank in place. We recommend that you purchase 5 mm or better.
Installation is very easy. As long as the subfloor is flat and free of moisture, dirt and dust, installers can lay down the planks tightly so they stay in place as the years pass.
