Why Choose Hickory Engineered Hardwood Flooring?

Hickory has a unique charm because of its eye-catching colours and unmistakably natural knots. When you choose hickory engineered hardwood flooring over hardwood, however, you get the advantages of wider planks and added resistance to moisture damage. Here’s a more complete look at the full list of benefits.

Wider planks

If you prefer the look of wider planks, then you’re in luck. Engineered hardwood flooring is offered in wider planks than solid hardwood, so you can get that chic modern look you’re after.

Resistant to warping

If there’s too much moisture, wood can warp over time. The good news is that engineered flooring is much less susceptible to damage from temperature and humidity fluctuations. It’s made of many layers of wood layered on top of each other, which helps the whole plank keep its shape.

Durable

Hickory is the hardest commercially available hardwood grown in North America. Scoring 1,820 on the Janka scale, this wood is extremely durable and scratch resistant.

Can be refinished

While hickory is very durable, if any damage does occur over time your floors can be refinished rather than replaced.

Flexible installation

Engineered wood flooring can sometimes be installed over concrete, tile, vinyl, radiant heat systems, or as a floating floor.

Lower cost

Engineered hardwood can be more affordable in comparison to solid hardwood flooring.

A More Eco-Friendly Flooring Option

Engineered hardwood is a very popular flooring choice not only for its elegance and versatility, but also because it’s more sustainable than solid hardwood. Engineered hardwood requires fewer trees, and less waste is generated during the manufacturing process.

How Is Engineered Hardwood Different from Solid Hardwood?

While solid hardwood flooring is one piece of wood, engineered hardwood is much more complex. The top layer, called veneer, is made of a slice of hardwood and is the only part that you see once your new floor has been installed. The layers below the veneer are made of plywood. During manufacturing, the layers are all pressed together to create one solid piece.

The result is a durable flooring solution that can handle temperature and humidity fluctuations—an important consideration in Ottawa!
